Biography

The winner of three consecutive Olympic titles in pankration, Astyanax was a prodigious eater. At a banquet given by the Persian Ariobarzanes, he announced he could eat all the food available for all the eight guests, and proceded to do so. It is unclear what the guests then had for dinner. Ariobarzanes asked him then to perform a feat of strength and he broke off a bronze ornament from a couch and bent it with his bare hands. It is also uncertain what Ariobarzanes thought of having his couch ornament ruined.
