Biography

Väino Järvenpää was a boxer who competed at the 1960 Roma Olympics. He was Nordic Champion in 1959. During his peak years, he competed for Kokkola’s Jymy, but later represented Reisjärvi Pilke, Iin Company, and Oulu Pyrintö. Järvenpää was runner-up at the Finnish nationals in 1955 and 1958, and won four TUL Championships. His nephew, Hannu Järvenpää, became a top ice hockey player and competed for Finland at the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics.
