Biography

In addition to being a gymnast Enrique Montserrat also worked as a cartoonist and painter. Montserrat was a member of the Barcelona Gymnastic Centre, becoming the Spanish champion in 1955. In 1959 he competed at the Mediterranean Games in Beirut and a year later he represented Spain at the 1960 Roma Olympics. At the Roma Games the Spanish team finished in 18th place, with Montserrat’s best individual performances coming in the horse vault and the rings.

Following his career as a gymnast Montserrat began working as a cartoonist, drawing for adventure comics and comics aimed at girls. He also had a collaboration with Marvel Comics where he drew a romantic comic strip written by Stan Lee. During the 1980s Montserrat retired from drawing for comics to focus on paintings.
