David Dagan

David Dagan began his sporting career as a basketball player for Elitzur Tel Aviv before becoming one of the best referees in the sport in Israel. Dagan turned to officiating when he was 17-years-old, becoming a FIBA international referee just over a decade later. He made his senior league début just two years after starting his refereeing career, with him soon officiating in European Championship matches. On the international stage he officiated in four matches at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, in addition to working at the 1995 Women’s World Championships.

Dagan retired at the end of the 1996/97 season and then served as an observer in Israel Basketball Association and FIBA matches. In 2006 he was elected as the chairman of the professional committee of the Referees’ Association.
