Biography

Sidney Cross was one of eight Northampton Polytechnic Institute members in the 1912 Great Britain Olympic gymnastics squad and, at 21, was also one of the youngest members of the squad. Cross won a team bronze medal in Stockholm. At Antwerpen in 1920, however, the British team finished a disappointing fifth, and last. Northampton Institute won the Adams Shield for the British Team Championship eight times between 1912-28 and Cross appeared in his first final in 1913, when they enjoyed victory over Birmingham.
