József Bittenbinder, as a BBTE gymnast, twice won the national gymnastic team championship, in 1910 and 1911. Under the name József Berkes, he participated in the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, and won a silver medal with the Hungarian team in the all-around competition. He retired after the Olympics, and worked as a Budapest lawyer, practicing under the name of his mother, Szendrey.
