He participated in the very first World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in 1903 in Antwerpen winning bronze in the team event, and competed at the 1907 World Championships in Praha, where he placed fourth with the team. Kummer shared first place at the first national trials in January 1912 with Pierre Hentges. After the final trials in June, he was one of 16 gymnasts selected for the Olympics.
After the Olympics, he directed the women’s gymnastics section at his club in Luxembourg (city), where he instructed a small group of female students immediately following the implementation of a law mandating gymnastics in primary and secondary schools. Kummer married Margaretha “Marguerite” Maria Schummers in 1913.
