Marius Eriksen won an Olympic bronze medal with the Norwegian team in gymnastics in the all-around Swedish system team event at the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm.
He was trained as a tinsmith and worked as a fitter. Later, he ran the sports shop “Marius Eriksen” in Oslo. Here, he developed the ski type “Streamline”. Eriksen was married to Birgit “Bitten” Heien, a famous knitting pattern designer creating, for instance “Cortina”, the official Olympic sweater in 1956. She was a skier herself and co-founder of the Women’s Ski Club in 1931. Both their sons, Marius Jr. and Stein were Olympians in Alpine skiing, the latter winning gold and silver in the Oslo Winter Olympics in 1952.
