Alf Lie was a member of the Norwegian men’s gymnastics team, which won an Olympic gold medal in the all-around free system event. His father was a typographer and several of his brothers were in the printing business. Alf also worked as an engineer in a printing office. In 1919, he married Dagny Vedeler Pedersen; the couple had two sons and one daughter. Alf’s brother Rolf was also a member of the Norwegian gymnastics team at Stockholm 1912.
