Biography

Antoine Porcel lost in the eighth-finals of the 1960 Olympic boxing tournament and then turned professional in 1963. He competed as a pro through 1973, fighting 61 times professionally, winning 26 (11 by KO), losing 25 (9 by KO), and drawing 10. He was French bantamweight champion, but lost a 1966 bout for the European flyweight championship against René Libeer. He twice defended his French title, losing it in 1967 against Pierre Vetroff. He again won the French bantamweight title in 1970, defeating Jean-Claude Lapinte, but lost the rematch in 1971, and after losing in another match for that title in 1973, against Guy Caudron, Porcel retired. He later became a boxing trainer, and died after suffering from Alzheimer’s for several years.
