Biography

Katrin Krüger was on the bronze medal winning East German handball team at the 1980 Moskva Olympics. She also won a gold at the 1978 Worlds. She played 260 international matches with the GDR national team and scored 1,095 goals.

Domestically, Krüger played with ASK Frankfurt on Oder and helped them win the 1989-90 GDR Championships and the 1990 European Cup of Champions title. In 1978-81 and 1983 she was the top scorer in GDR Oberliga and was named 1981 and 1982 Handball Player of the Year. Krüger married rowing European Champion Jochen Mietzner who later became a cycling coach. Their daughter Franziska became a handball professional. Katrin Krüger studied law and became a family judge at Frankfurt am Oder.
