Biography

Lothar Doering was on the gold medal winning East German team at the 1980 Moskva Olympics, winning the final after a 23-22 overtime victory against the Soviet Union. He was internationally capped 78 times and scored 181 goals. Domestically, he played with SC Leipzig and helped them win GDR Championships in 1976 and 1979.

Doering turned to coaching after his retirement. Among others he coached the SC Magdeburg, SC Riesa, SC Leipzig women’s team, the GDR women’s national team, and the German women’s team after re-unification from 1992-94. He led the German men’s national team to gold at the 1993 World Championships.
