Biography

Handball player Jens Fiedler competed at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, but the East German team finished a disappointing seventh. He played with German national teams (former GDR and re-unified Germany) 165 times and scored 170 goals. In 1986, he won the bronze medal at the World Championships, and in 1990 the East German team finished eighth. The re-unified German team placed sixth in 1993.

Until re-unification, Fuhrig played with SC Leipzig (GDR Champions in 1976 and 1979, and cup winners in 1982), and then moved to SG Wallau / Massenheim in 1990, where he played until 2004. He helped them win the German Championship in 1992 and 1993, and the German Cup in 1993 and 1994. The team also won the European IHF Cup in 1992. He started his coaching career at Wallau and then coached several Bundesliga men’s and women’s teams in Germany.
