Biography

West German lightweight judoka Wolfram Koppen finished fifth at the 1972 München Olympics. He lost the repêchage final against Mongolian Bakhvain Buyadaa by Juji-gatame, although Buyadaa was later disqualified for doping. Koppen claimed two West German national titles in 1968 and 1972. Koppen was engaged by his home club TH Eilbeck Hamburg as a youth coach beginning in 1968. He also was active within the Hamburger Judo Federation in several positions. Koppen reached the 6th Dan.
