Biography

German middleweight judoka Axel Lobenstein lost his bronze medal bout at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics against Japan’s Hirotaka Okada. In 1989 he won the bronze medal at the World Championships, and at the Europeans he won bronze in 1989, silver in 1990, and gold in 1991.

Domestically, Lobenstein won the national title in the former GDR in 1989 and 1990, and the German title between 1992-94. Lobenstein later became CEO of Olympia-Sport Leipzig GmbH. He organised the Dance World Championships at Leipzig in 2010.
