Biography

Peter Seisenbacher was a judoka who competed at three Olympic Games and won gold medals as a middleweight in both 1984 and 1988. He was also World Champion at 86 kg in 1985. At the European Championships he won eight medals between 1980-88, including a gold medal at 86 kg in 1986. Seisenbacher later became a judo coach in Austria, Georgia, and Azerbaijan.

Sadly, it was later found that Seisenbacher had sexually abused two girls he had coached in Austria between 1999 and 2004. The women filed charges against him in 2013, and an international arrest warrant was issued in December 2016 when he did not appear at a court hearing in Wien (Vienna). He was found in Ukraine after he had been on the run for seven months, and was handed over to Austrian authorities in September 2019. He was eventually sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of sexual abuse.
