Biography

Roberto Solórzano was a Costa Rican judoka who went on to become a government minister. Solórzano competed in the half-heavyweight (93kg) event at the 1972 München Olympics. He lost his one and only bout of the Games in just 19 seconds and did not advance.

In 1992 Solórzano joined the Costa Rican Academy of Genealogical Sciences. After holding numerous roles within the Academy he became President from 2005 to 2007. Solórzano was the Costa Rican Minister of Agriculture and Livestock from 1995 to 1996 under the presidency of José María Figueres. Between 2006 and 2008 Solórzano also served as the Director of Intelligence and National Security.

Solórzano had a passion for genealogy and researched multiple families of Costa Rica’s colonial period. He was also a successful livestock businessman.
