Biography

Bashir Varayev was one of the best half-middleweight judokas of the world at the end of the 1980s. During his career Varayev won the 1988 Olympic bronze, the 1987 World Championships silver, and bronze at the 1989 and 1991 World Championships. Varayev won the European title four times (1987-90), while taking bronze at the 1991 and 1992 European Championships. He also won gold at the 1990 Goodwill Games and was Soviet champion from 1986-88.
