Madero came from an influential family. His grandfather designed and built the port of Buenos Aires, now known as Puerto Madero - the most expensive and luxurious port in Argentina. Miguel was also a renowned architect and was mayor of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. Along with the fencer Horacio Casco, they were the only two Argentine Olympians to be governors of Buenos Aires. When he died in 1995, Madero was the last of the 71 Argentina Olympians born in the 19th century to die.
