Biography

Guillaume Visser started his rowing career in 1900. In 1902, he teamed up with Urbain Molmans. They went on to win won five European titles in the coxed pairs (1903, 1905, 1907, 1908 and 1910) and added two silver and one bronze as well as five consecutive Belgian titles (1904-08). Visser was equally successful in the coxed fours winning consecutive golds at five European Championships (1903-07) and two silver. In this class he claimed five more Belgian titles (1903-07). With the eights he was European Champion in 1903, 1904 and 1910 and runner-up in 1905. Visser was a member of the eight winning five Belgian titles and the Grand Challenge Cup at Henley in 1906, 1907 and 1909.

For the 1908 Olympics, however, Visser as well as Molmans were only reserves for the Belgian eight, which eventually won silver. Four years later, Visser sat in the Belgian coxed four that competed in the 1912 Olympic regatta. After defeating Roklubb Købnhavn in the heats, they were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Norway’s Kristiania Roklub.

Visser was also an avid footballer, playing as a defender for FC Brugeois and Racing Club de Gand. He was also active as a swimmer and was founder and chairman of the Gentsche Zwemvereeniging. Visser worked as a docks foreman.
