Biography

Boxer Franz Dübbers was German Amateur Champion in 1924 (flyweight), 1925 (bantamweight), 1927 (featherweight), and 1928 (lightweight) and German Professional Champion in 1929 (featherweight) and 1931-32 (lightweight). At the European Amateur Championships he won silver in 1925 (bantamweight) and gold in 1927 (featherweight). Dübbers fought as a professional from 1929-36. At the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics he lost his second round lightweight bout.

Dübbers was one of four European Champions coached by Ludwig Neecke of SC Colonia Köln (Cologne) from 1927-30. In 1927 he was one of the “triumvirate” of boxers, a term in reference to the Köln carnival, along with non-Olympians Jakob Domgörgen, Hein Müller and in 1930 eventually Jupp Besselmann.
