Biography

Mike Hughes took up rowing at a young age and was representing Canada on the international scene as early as 1975, when he finished tenth in the coxed pairs at the Junior World Championships. At the senior level, he finished fourth in quadruple sculls at the 1983 World Championships, alongside Doug Hamilton, Phil Monckton, and Bruce Ford. The quartet was then chosen to compete for their country at the 1984 Summer Olympics, where they won the bronze medal. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University in his Olympic year and retired from active competition in 1985.
