With the coxed four crew from Helsinki, Edvin Lönnberg lost to the eventual bronze medalists from Denmark in the quarter-finals of the 1912 Olympic Games. In the following year he was in the boat winning the Nordic championship. Lönnberg worked as stenographer and was married to Paula (née Haase), the daughter of a stonemason from Hamburg.
