Biography

Pierre Clergerie was a longtime member of the Société Nautique de la Basse Seine, starting in the 1930s. A member of the highly successful eights squad, he won four national championships in the coxed eights in 1943 and 1946–48. The 1947 team was chosen to represent France at the European Championships, finishing in fourth place, and the next year, were selected to compete at the London Olympics. There, they finished fourth in their preliminary heat and thus did not advance to the finals. He was also the stroke of the SNBS fours squad during the early 1940s. Clergerie continued to row with SNBS throughout the 1950s, and later became a rowing coach.
