Biography

Simon Tozer was educated at Winchester College and then Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was a member of the First and Third Trinity Rowing Club. At Winchester he was in their eight that competed at Henley in both 1950 and 1951.

Tozer was a fine sculler and was runner-up in the Cambridge University Colquhoun Sculls in 1952 and 1953, and in the second of those years was the singles sculls champion at the Serpentine Regatta. Tozer was in the Cambridge Trial eights for the 1953 and 1954 Boat Races but never made the final cut. He did, however, obtain his Blue in 1955 when he rowed at No.5 in the winning crew.

Tozer was called into the Great Britain eight for the 1956 European Championships at Bled and also the Melbourne Olympics, where they were eliminated in the first round repêchage. Tozer, who completed his National Service as a lieutenant in the Welsh Guards, was later a marketing executive with Total Oil Products and spent time with them in Sudan.
