Biography

East German Cornelia Linse rowed with Heidi Westphal in the double sculls at the 1980 Moskva Summer Games and collected the silver medal. In 1979, the pair also won the East German national title and the World Championships gold. Linse’s greatest sports moment came in 1985 when she won the World Championships in the single sculls. From 1981-83 she won three consecutive silver medals at the Worlds in the coxed quadruple sculls. Due to the Soviet-led boycott of the 1984 Los Angeles Games she could not defend her Olympic silver.

Linse became a graduated sports teacher but worked with GDR Radio at Leipzig as a sports journalist. After German re-unification she moved to the newly founded Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk MDR at Magdeburg.
