Rower Michael Buchheit was a member of the German lightweight coxless fours that finished fifth at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. At World Championships he won three gold (1989-91) and two bronze (1992, 1995) medals in different lightweight boat classes. In 1989-90, 1992, and 1995-96 he won the German nationals in the lightweight coxless fours. He also won the national lightweight quadruple sculls in 1987-88, and the lightweight eights from 1990-92.
