Helmut Noll won a surprise silver medal in the coxed pairs together with Heinz Manchen and Helmut Heinhold at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. They qualified for the games as winners of the German Championship the same year. At the 1953 European Championships they finished second. Noll, Manchen and Heinhold were awarded the Silver Bay Leaf for their 1952 silver medal.
