Biography

German rower Michael Steinbach won the gold medal with the quadruple sculls at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. The crew was subsequently awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. In 1989, 1991, and 1992 he won the national title, before retiring after the Barcelona Games.

A graduated national economist, Steinbach was CEO of a big sports centre at Koblenz between 1986-88. He then moved to Bad Dürrheim to become the managing and spa director of the Kur und Bäder GmbH. From 2004, he was a self-employed tourism consultant and specialist organiser of training camps. He also became managing director of Bodensee Campus GmbH, a private high school for tourism students.
