From 1956 to 1959 Vincenzo Bruno was the coxswain of the pairs crew that won the Italian title on four consecutive occasions. The Italian champions of Bruno, Renzo Ostino, and Giovanni Anselmi also won silver at the European Championships in 1958 and 1959. For the 1960 Roma Olympics Giancarlo Piretta replaced Anselmi, with the Italian team finishing fifth.
