Biography

János Széles won the Hungarian championship in 1928 and 1930 at bantamweight and in 1929 at featherweight. In 1928 he took part in the Amsterdam Olympics, where he reached the quarterfinals in bantamweight. In 1930, he won the European Championship in the same weight class. After the Games. due to financial problems, he moved to Argentina. Primarily he tried to work in his original profession as a baker but was unsuccessful due to him not having adequate Spanish language skills. He was soon discovered as a boxer and became a professional under the name Juan Selez and competed until 1933, after which he became a sports instructor.
