Orlando Savarin was an Italian rower born in Istria, now part of Slovenia. A soldier in the Italian Navy, Savarin had his best year as an international rower in 1964, when he rowed with the eights that was made up of fellow Naval seamen. In August that year they finished fourth at the Amsterdam European Championships behind Germany, the Soviet Union, and Yugoslavia. Two months later at the Tokyo Olympics, they reached the final and finished sixth in a race won by the United States.
