Biography

One of the top lightweight rowers in the Netherlands during her career, she won three World Championship medals in the lightweight double sculls. She was runner-up in 1986 with Karin Hommers, and won the world title two years later with Laurien Vermulst. Paired with Cindy Rip, she won a bronze in 1993. Together with Vermulst, she also competed in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, where lightweight rowing made its Olympic début. The two made it to the final, placing sixth.

Meliesie also competed in the lightweight single sculls, finishing fourth in the 1992 Worlds. After her rowing career, she became a physical therapist. She was still closely connected with sports, working for the Canadian rowing team and later the basketball team of Zwolle, Landstede Hammers, and taught at the connected Landstede Sports & Health college. She remained active with her rowing and sailing club, ZRZV, serving as chairperson for several years. She died at the age 63 of breast cancer.
