Biography

Zacarias Andias was a member of Clube dos Galitos, which was selected to represented Portugal in rowing’s eights event at the 1952 Helsinki Games. There, the squad was eliminated in the round one repêchage after coming last in its heats twice. This was Andias’ only major international appearance, and he later had an extensive career in community building, which had begun with his efforts to bring together and prepare the Galitos team for competition. He later focused his work on founding and running local community social centers, and also remained involved in the coaching and administration of rowing after his competitive days.
