Biography

Paddy Kenny took up boxing as a schoolboy in his native Cork, Ireland, but took a hiatus before rediscovering the sport after moving to Coventry, England. He began his career as a featherweight but shifted to bantamweight shortly before the 1960 Rome Olympics and won the Irish national title in that division. This led to his selection to represent Ireland at the Games, where he defeated Emile Anner of Switzerland in round two before being bested by Jerry Armstrong of the United States. At the time of his Olympic appearance, he was working as a truck driver, but he later served as a trainer at English boxing clubs.
