Biography

Latvian rower Aivars Lazdenieks competed for the Soviet Union during the 1970s. In 1974 Lazdenieks became the Soviet junior singles champion before winning bonze in the quadruple sculls at the World Rowing Championships the following year. At the 1976 Montréal Olympics he was part of the Soviet quartet that won the silver medal in the quadruple sculls, finishing just behind the East German team. After his rowing career Lazdenieks graduated from the Latvian Academy of Sport Education in 1986 and later worked as a security guard.
