Biography

Born in the land of gold, Ft. Knox, Kentucky, it was appropriate that Tom Amlong would win a gold medal in Tokyo. It came as a member of the eight-oared Vesper BC crew for whom he had been rowing for four years. Amlong graduated from the University of Virginia and, like his brother, began a military career. He served for over 20 years, retiring as a captain, and was deployed to Vietnam during his service. With his brother, Joe, Tom Amlong won several national championships.
