Biography

At 6-2 (1.88) and 190 lbs. (86 kg.), Don Johnston was perfectly suited for the “engine room” and rowed the six-oar for the Naval Academy eight at the 1920 Olympics. He developed into a top-flight oarsman very quickly – he had been rowing for only one year by the time of the 1920 Olympics. Johnston became a career officer in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1952 as a captain.
