Mark Norelius rowed for the University of Washington, graduating in 1974. He then joined the US Air Force as a fighter pilot. Norelius won a gold medal at the 1974 World Championships in the eight. That year his boat also won the US and Canadian titles. After serving in the Air Force, Norelius became a pilot for Delta Air Lines based in Seattle, and later for Northwest Airlines. His sister, Kristine Norelius, rowed at the 1984 Olympics and won a gold medal in the eights.
