Michel Daou was Curaçao’s top trap shooter for 20 years. He competed for the Netherlands Antilles in three consecutive Olympics (1992-2000). He placed last in two of his events, but recorded a best rank of 22nd (in a field of 25) in the Sydney double trap. He also competed in World Championships between 1994 and 2001, his best showing a 45th place in the 1997 double trap. In 1993 and 2005 he reached a seventh place in the Pan American Championships, both times in the double trap. Daou also took part in five Pan American Games (1995-2011), with an 11th spot in the Winnipeg 1999 double trap event as his top performance.
Daou, who was knighted for his contributions to sport shooting in 2022, was also determined to improve training conditions on the island. Together with his uncle and a friend, he set up the Daou Shooting Range. It had always been Daou’s desire to also open the range for the military, but when he died 2024, this had not been achieved. In April 2025, the “Defensie Schietinrichting Daou” was opened next to the Daou’s shooting range.
