Lauri Kolho was born as Saxberg, but the family name was Finnicised to Kolho in 1906. He competed in 1908 London and 1912 Stockholm Olympics in the free rifle, three positions event. In 1922-23 he was a board member of the Finnish Sport Shooting Federation. His brothers Voitto and Yrjö were Olympic shooting medallists. Another brother, Vilho, was city architect in Tampere.
After graduating from the Vaasa Finnish Lycaeum, Lauri Kolho studied at the Helsinki University. From 1907, he ran the family farm. In 1918, he fought in the Civil War, subsequently acting as local chief of the White Guard and member of the staff of the Northern Häme White Guard District. He then continued with an involvement in local politics. In the 1930s he was active in the nationalistic and anti-communist Lapua Movement and Patriotic People’s Movement. In 1940 he died of the intestine condition ileus.
