Edmond Sandoz studied law at the University of Dijon and was awarded distinctions in civil law and commercial law in 1893. He moved to Paris and started a career at the local Court of Appeal in 1895. Sandoz also became involved in the conference of lawyers and completed his doctorate thesis in 1898. In 1912, he competed in the duel pistol events at the Stockholm Olympics.
Sandoz was mobilized in World War I. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre and in 1923, he was made a knight of the Legion of Honor. But he was also described as a dandy.
