Gravesend toolmaker Derek Robinson was selected for the 50 metres small-bore rifle, three positions event at the 1960 Olympics along with Steffen Cranmer. At Roma, Robinson was the highest placed of the two Britons in 29th place. Robinson also competed in the 1962 World Championships at Cairo, and the 1963 and 1965 European Shooting Championships in Oslo and Bucharest respectively.
