Biography

Arthur Skinner finished fifth out of 85 starters in the 50 metres small-bore rifle, prone competition at the 1960 Roma Olympics, just one point off the bronze medal position. He finished 20 places above the only other Briton in the field, William Godwin

The year before the Roma Games, Skinner was in the five-man City of Birmingham Rifle Club team that set a world record with a maximum score of 1,000 points. He competed in the 1963 European Shooting Championships in Oslo and in 1969 took part in the first match for the Lord Roberts Trophy between Great Britain and the United States at Bisley. Skinner was Great Britain’s top scorer but the USA were the inaugural winners of the trophy. Skinner continued shooting competitively well into the 1970s.
