Biography

Greek sportsman Kostas Karakatsanis was a middle-distance runner and a rower. At the 1896 Athína Olympics Karakatsanis ran in the 1,500 metres but did not finish the race. Ten years later he participated as a rower at the 1906 Intercalated Games. Karakatsanis was one of the crew in the 17-man naval rowing boat with his boat finishing in fourth place. The race took place over 3,000 metres with 16 oarsmen per boat each with a “leader” who served as a coxswain and cheerleader.
