Biography

Erzsébet Vasvári’s father and coach Pál Vasvári encouraged her to start shooting for MKSZ KLK. Later in her career she was with MHSZ Zalka KMFSE and Bolyai KMFSE. She competed in the shotgun events of skeet and trap shooting and won 13 individual national championships. In 1975 Vasvári became a member of the Hungarian national team and would remain on the team for 30 years. At the World Championships in individual skeet, she won a bronze medal in 1989, and a silver medal a year later, but she achieved her greatest successes in team events, helping Hungary to two World Championships and four European Championships. Her medal collection also included another silver and five bronze World Championship team medals.

After her competitive career ended, Vasvári-Pongrátz became a coach and was active in several Olympics as the head coach of the Hungarian national team. By her lead, Hungarian shooters won 22 medals at the European and World Championships and Olympic Games. Vasvári-Pongrátz later founded a shooting academy, training and coaching junior athletes.
