Biography

Mariano “Tom” Ong competed as a pistol shooter at the 1972 and 1976 Olympics. From 1977 until his retirement from competitive shooting in 1997, Ong competed at the Southeast Asian Games. He won several medals, including a gold in 1992 in the rapid-fire pistol team event. He was awarded a gold masters badge at the 1974 World Championships.

Tom Ong’s son, Nathaniel “Tac” Padilla, also became a top shooter in the Philippines. Ong was an industrialist who started Malabon Soap and Oil Industrial Co., which made Spring Cooking Oil.
