Biography

Austrian swimmer Monika Bayer participated in the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. She placed 17th in the 400 metres IM and failed to qualify for the final. In the 1980s, Bayer was Austria’s outstanding long-distance freestyle swimmer. Nevertheless, she retired directly after the 1984 Games at the age of 17 years. She later came out of retirement, however, to compete in several European and World Seniors Championships.

Nationally, Bayer won Austrian titles over the 200 metres backstroke from 1982-84, the 800 metres free in 1983 and 1984, and several relays. By profession, Bayer became a corporate customer advisor at the Sparkassen-Group in Austria. From 2010, she was a member of the Executive Board of Management of Intermarket Bank AG.

Personal Best: 400 m IM – 4:59.25 (1984).
