Biography

Austrian freestyle swimmer Helmut Ilk represented his country at the 1960 Rome Olympics. He competed in the 400 metres freestyle but placed 35th. He won 18 national titles and was also a water polo player in the Austrian national team.

Ilk became even better known as a sports administrator. He was a long-time executive board member of his home club ASV Linz and of the Upper Austrian Swimming Federation, and from 2006-18 was its president.
