Walter Pavlicek was an Austrian breaststroke swimmer who participated at the 1948 London Olympics, He reached the semi-finals over 200 metres but did not advance to the final.
After World War II, Pavlicek emigrated to Germany and settled in Nürnberg, and later in Fürth. He worked as a systems analyst with the well-known company Quelle Fürth. Pavlicek became a local politician with the left-wing party SPD and was a member of the Fürth city council from 1973-90. His wife Helga, also a local politician, initiated the Jewish Museum at Fürth.
